AWHT COLOUR CREATIONS SHOWCASE - WEEK 16: FLIRTY FLAMINGO

This week's colour, with which all of us taking part in the Colour Creations Showcase are creating, is Flirty Flamingo.  This is one of my least favourite, and therefore least used, of Stampin' Up's colours!  However, I've risen to the challenge to use as many colours as I can, in the 50 weeks of our Colour Creations weekly shares, so I was determined not to be beaten.  I haven't missed a week in the 16 weeks so far, and have no intention of missing any, if I can help it!

Cathy Proctor co-ordinates our showcase each week.  She has a comprehensive list on her blog of all the participants.  We would love for you to visit all our blogs, and leave some comment love if you feel so inclined.

I issued myself a double challenge this week.  In addition to featuring Flirty Flamingo, I was determined to use a stamp set that has sat on my shelf and seen very little use.  I chose Parcels & Petals, and the Perfect Parcel Dies, designed to use in conjunction with the stamp set.  My colour combination is one suggested by Stampin' Up! (and one that I would never think to use myself - so, a triple challenge!):

I'm not a big fan of pink paired with burgundy or red, so this one was a bit of a stretch for me!  I worked around it by limiting the amount of Merry Merlot used.

After stamping the flowers in Flirty Flamingo ink, on a die-cut circle of Whisper White card, I added some leaves in Soft Suede ink.  I then stamped the flowers again (with some extras) on another piece of Whisper White card, and fussy cut them.  I used an eraser on the end of a pencil, to pick up ink from my Merry Merlot inkpad (I just tapped the eraser end onto the ink pad, as if it were a stamp).  I then "stamped" it as flower centres.

On the main panel of Flirty Flamingo card, I adhered some flourishy die cuts, from Perfect Parcel Dies, also cut from Flirty Flamingo card.  I then ran the panel through my Stampin' Cut & Emboss machine, inside the Subtle 3D embossing folder.

I stamped the flowers, and centres, on a scrap of Whisper White card, after "stamping off" onto scrap paper, to give a slightly lighter impression.  I then stamped the sentiment over the top in Soft Suede ink.  This piece was cut out using a label from the Perfect Parcel Dies.

Here's a closer view of the fussy cut flowers adhered over the top of the stamped ones, on the stitched circle (that is mounted on a Soft Suede scalloped circle).

Please hop over to Cathy's blog, to see the other Flirty Flamingo creations on show this week.

  4. Wow! You really like a challenge or 3 don't you? To use Flirty Flamingo was challenge enough but that colour combo makes it twice as hard yet you have come up with another lovely card and as always something unique, using a pencil eraser. That's creative thinking!

  6. I’m one out of a box - I got so excited when I saw the 3 colours in your gorgeous colour combination, I couldn’t wait to see how you had used them! Absolutely perfect having lots of Flirty Flamingo and just tiny touches of Merlot and Soft Suede. I really LOVE what you have done with the die cut flourishes on the background.

  8. Christine, your card showcases Flirty Flamingo beautifully. The little touches of Soft Suede and Merry Merlot are just enough to counter the brightness of FF. I love that you set yourself the challenge to use an 'unloved' stamp set. You have inspired me to revisit some of mine that haven't seen much love either.

  10. Such a pretty card, Christine. I love how you embossed the die-cut into the main Flirty Flamingo layer - it looks great! And I love your pencil rubber flower centres too. The colour combination challenge was met perfectly! x

  12. You've done a wonderful job with Flirty Flamingo, especially given that you dislike the colour! The flowers are quite sweet, and I love the splattering on the background.
