STAMPIN' UP! BANNER YEAR CHRISTMAS CARD

As I was waiting for some new Christmas "toys" to arrive from Stampin' Up! recently, I discovered my neglected Banner Year stamp set.  I thought Perfectly Plaid was the only Christmas set I had left, after all my other sets retired!

Here's a simple and sweet card I made with Banner Year, and Heartwarming Hugs Designer Series Paper:

I cut two tags - one from Basic White card, and the other from a Real Red piece of Heartwarming Hugs DSP - using a Tailor Made Tags die.  On the bottom half of the Basic White tag, I stamped holly leaves and berries - the leaves in Mossy Meadow ink, and the berries in Real Red ink.   The sentiment, stamped in Pear Pizzazz ink on a scrap of Basic White card, was cut out using a Stitched Rectangles Die.

I embossed the top half of the tag using a Checks & Dots embossing folder.  On a separate piece of Basic White card, I stamped the little bird and Santa hat in Real Red ink.  One of the sweet shapes from the Messages Die was used to crop the bird; I then adhered this piece to the embossed tag, and tucked it under the sentiment.

I used the Light Olive Stampin' Blends marker to colour some White Crinkled Seam Binding ribbon.  After looping this through the hole in the tag, and securing it with glue dots,  I added a bow made from Playful Pets trim.  The "gems" on my card are Opal Rounds, coloured with the Dark Mossy Meadow Stampin' Blends marker.

As my card base is Pear Pizzazz, I added to the inside a Basic White card panel, that I had stamped with some holly.

STAMPIN' UP! BANNER YEAR CARD FOR PP511

When I first saw this week's challenge at The Paper Players, I thought I'd sit it out.  We don't celebrate, or send cards, for Autumn (as we call Fall in the Southern Hemisphere) ... and I wasn't sure I'd be able to incorporate one of these animals on a card.  Then I remembered I have the Banner Year stamp set, which includes a teeny tiny squirrel image ... and I have the beautiful Gilded Autumn Designer Series Paper ... so, happily, I was able to create something after all.

Using the stitched rectangle die from Ornate Layers Dies, I cut six strips of patterned paper, that I lay across the front of a Crumb Cake card base.  The papers are so pretty on their own, I didn't want to add too much detail to the card, so have kept it cute and simple!  The squirrel, acorns, and sentiment on my card are all from the Banner Year stamp set.  I've used Stitched Nested Labels Dies to cut out the Very Vanilla and Mint Macaron panels.  After stamping the sentiment on a scrap of Very Vanilla card, I cut it out with a sweet scalloped stitched heart from Stitched Be Mine Dies.

The bow treatment was a bit of a happy discovery.  I wanted to use Mint Macaron basket weave ribbon, but found it a bit too wide and bulky for my card (especially since the squirrel is so little!).  I cut a length of the ribbon in half lengthways, intending to use the narrower piece to make my bow.  However, the ribbon frayed, and divided into lots of really soft strands ... so, I went with that, and tied a bow - and I love it!

Thanks, Claire, for your challenge to include a "Fall Critter" on a project  ... mine may be tiny, but he's there, front and centre!
