STAMPIN' UP! MOUNTAIN AIR BIRTHDAY CARD IN STARRY SKY

 

This week's Colour Creations blog hop is focussing on Starry Sky, a bright "royal" blue that is a newly-introduced In Color.

Taking inspiration from the new Sun Prints Designer Series Paper, I have paired Starry Sky with Gray Granite, to make a masculine birthday card.

When I showed the card to my partner, he commented that it has a Japanese look to it, particularly with the mountains.  I think the new In the Clouds embossing folder (that I used on the Starry Sky background panel) evokes thoughts of Japan.  This wasn't my intention, but I found the observation interesting!

I am in LOVE with the new Deckled Rectangles Dies; I used one to cut out the main panel, from a piece of Gray Granite Sun Prints DSP.  This particular sheet of paper has a concrete-like finish, with very fine subtle script detail, and was lovely to stamp on.

In this photo, you can see more clearly the Deckled Rectangle edge, and the detail of the embossing folder.  I knotted a length of Starry Sky Metallic Woven Ribbon, and frayed the ends by teasing the threads out with my fingers.  As you can see, I stamped birds in both Gray Granite and Starry Sky inks, directly onto the Designer Series Paper.

Another new favourite product is the Charming Sentiments bundle.  I white heat-embossed the sentiment onto a piece of Starry Sky card, then used the co-ordinating die to closely crop the words.  This bundle contains dies to cut out every sentiment - love it!

In this photo, you can also better see the "stamped off" mountains in Gray Granite ink.

One tree was die cut from Gray Granite card, and the other Sahara Sand card.  Using a Blending Brush, I added Gray Granite ink to both trees - lightly on the right-hand tree, and more heavily on the tree in the foreground.

AWHT COLOUR CREATIONS BLOG HOP - WEEK 3: BASIC GRAY

 

Welcome to the Colour Creations Blog Hop, where several of my Stampin' Up! friends and I share creations showcasing Stampin' Up! colours in alphabetical order.  The feature colour in this week's blog hop is Basic Gray.  

This moody neutral is a great colour to incorporate on masculine cards - my favourite kind of card to make!  I have used the Mountain Air stamp set and co-ordinating Majestic Mountain Dies, along with my favourite soon-to-retire sentiment stamp set, You Are Amazing.

You may think I have used a green ink to create the mist shrouding the mountains, but no, it's just greys! Using the solid reverse side of the mountain stamp,  I used Smoky Slate ink, stamped off once onto scrap paper first, to give a light impression of mountains on a piece of Basic White card.  I then flipped over the stamp, inked it with Basic Gray ink, and stamped the line detail of the mountains over the top.  The Smoky Slate ink had not completely dried before I blended some Basic Gray ink over the top, using a Blending Brush.  Rather intriguingly, the result was a greenish hue.  I don't mind it!

I have used a Basic Borders Die, reminiscent of snowy mountain peaks, to cut the top edge of the Basic White stamped piece.  The trees are die cut from Basic Gray and Basic Black card.

I white heat-embossed the sentiment on a piece of Basic Gray card, and cut it out using a Tasteful Labels Die.  I mounted this on a Basic Black Tailor Made Tag, with a hole reinforcer in Basic White, and some Basic Gray baker's twine knotted through it.

The background paper is one of the sheets from the Simply Elegant Specialty Designer Series Paper pack.
