ART WITH HEART COLOUR CREATIONS SHOWCASE - WEEK 39: PURPLE POSY

This week's Colour Creations Showcase, hosted by Cathy Proctor, is focussing on Purple Posy.  This pale purple is an In Color, about to retire from our range in a couple of months.  Make sure you visit Cathy's blog, to see her beautiful creations, and to find the links to the blogs of all this week's showcase participants.

The starting point for my Purple Posy card was the background I created, by die-cutting six horizontal strips of paper with Purple Posy designs.  I used the stitched rectangle die from Ornate Layers, and papers from the 2019-2021 In Color 6" x 6" Designer Series Paper pack, and the Playing With Patterns Designer Series Paper pack.  Six of these rectangles fit perfectly on the standard card base size we  use in Australia and New Zealand.

I haven't played with the Birds & Branches bundle for a while, so decided on those stamps and dies for the focal point on my card.  I inked up the bird using my Purple Posy Stampin' Write marker, as we don't have a Purple Posy inkpad (the only colour in Stampin' Up!'s history, I believe, that just didn't maintain its colour integrity in inkpad form).  I was able to achieve a good intensity of colour, using my Stamparatus to line up the stamp to make a second impression, for the top layer of the bird.  The bird's body was inked up using the Purple Posy Stampin' Write marker, stamped off onto scrap paper, and then stamped onto the card, to give a lighter impression.  I used Basic Gray and Smoky Slate Stampin' Write markers for the bird's eye.

The leafy circle frame was cut from Basic White card, then layered on a scalloped circle (from Layering Circles Dies), that I embossed with the Subtle 3D embossing folder.  After die-cutting the branch from Crumb Cake card, I snipped it a little to "thin" it out, so there was less foliage under the bird's feet.  The separated part of the branch was adhered underneath the scalloped circle.

Playing With Patterns Resin Dots are a sweet, subtle, addition to my card.  The Purple Posy Scalloped Linen Ribbon dictated my colour scheme, of Purple Posy and Crumb Cake.

I used a couple of stamps from the Posted For You stamp set, for the sentiment.  The strip sentiment is stamped in Crumb Cake ink on Basic White card, then cropped using a Floral Gallery sentiment die.  I white-embossed the "special delivery" circle on Crumb Cake card, cut it out using a Stitched Shapes die, and laid the "sending love your way" strip across the circle to hide the words at the bottom of the circle.  A little Purple Posy heart was die cut using the dies from the Birds & Branches bundle, as was the Purple Posy leafy border you can see across the bottom piece of Designer Series Paper.

STAMPIN' UP! DANDY LASER CUT BIRTHDAY CARD

The Dandy Laser Cut paper, in the January - June Mini Catalogue, contains a variety of laser cut frames and decorative elements.  I have used one of the frames, and three dragonflies, on today's card.  The colour combination on my card is Misty Moonlight, Petal Pink and Night of Navy.  It's a combination suggested by Stampin' Up!, and one that I found quite challenging, but I think it works!

I started by backing one of the laser-cut frames onto a piece of Night of Navy card.  I embossed it with the Dandelions 3D embossing folder, which gives such beautiful detail.  This piece is adhered to papers from the Subtles 6"x6" pack, and Dandy Garden papers.  The card base is Misty Moonlight, and I have added a Night of Navy ornate border to the bottom of the DSP panel.

The sentiment, stamped in Misty Moonlight, is from the Posted For You stamp set.

I used Blending Brushes to colour the three dragonflies, colouring one in Misty Moonlight (that's the one you see in the pic above), one in Petal Pink, and one in Night of Navy.  The bristles of the Blending Brushes are beautifully soft, and it was very easy to colour these delicate laser-cut pieces without scrunching or damaging them.  The Petal Pink dragonfly was looking beautiful, until I turned it over to apply Liquid Glue to the back, and inadvertently laid it on a piece of scrap paper that had remnants of Night of Navy ink on.  So the Petal Pink dragonfly is a bit speckled (I didn't realise until I'd stuck it down, unfortunately) ... at least it co-ordinates with the other elements on the card!
