STAMPIN' UP! GARDEN BIRDHOUSES CARD - BUMBLEBEE

Tonight I am taking part in a weekly Colour Creations blog hop, with some Stampin' Up! friends.  We are working our way through all of Stampin' Up!'s colours, in alphabetical order.  This week, the colour we are creating with is Bumblebee - a lovely, rich, yellow.

The starting point for my card was the beautiful background paper, from the Harvest Meadow Designer Series Paper pack, coming out next month.  (One of the many perks of being a Stampin' Up! demonstrator is having access to new products a month before they become readily available.)

The creation of my focal art piece was a bit of an exercise in "masking".  Thank goodness for sticky notes (Post-It notes, but in my case a different brand, from Officeworks) that have temporary adhesive all over the paper, rather than a strip just at the top.

I started with a Basic White scalloped rectangle, cut using a Scalloped Contours Die.  I stamped the leafy branches (and the grass) in Pear Pizzazz ink, the birdhouse in Crumb Cake ink, and the birds in Bumblebee ink.  On a sticky note I stamped the leafy branch, the birdhouse and the birds, spaced apart so I could easily cut around them with Paper Snips.  After cutting each piece from the sticky note, I placed them over the stamped images on the Basic White scalloped rectangle.  Masking, in this way, protects the stamped images from the ink that's then applied, to create a background.  I used Blending Brushes and Balmy Blue and Pear Pizzazz inkpads, to colour the sky and grass areas.  When I removed the sticky note pieces, I then went to work colouring the stamped images.  A Pear Pizzazz Stampin' Write marker was used to colour in the leaves.  Wanting a softer colour application (than I would get with markers) for the birds and birdhouse, I put to use the "leftover" sticky note from which I had cut out the birds and birdhouse shapes.  I placed the outline pieces over the birds and birdhouse, and used Blending Brushes, and Bumblebee and Crumb Cake inkpads, to colour the stamped line images.  This is where the "all over" sticky note really came into its own, as it stayed nicely in place.

Here's a closer look at the top half of the card.  It shows the subtle frame cut with a Stitched With Whimsy Die, on the Bumblebee patterned paper.  After drawing over the birds' feet with my Crumb Cake Stampin' Write marker,  I added some Bumblebee Square Gems, and Bumblebee Gingham Ribbon, to finish off the card.

The focal panel on my card is adhered to a Crumb Cake scalloped rectangle, cut using a Stitched So Sweetly Die.  On a piece of Basic White card, I stamped the sentiment in Bumblebee ink.  I used the Picture This Dies to cut a stitched circle around the sentiment.
