STAMPIN' UP! COLOR & CONTOUR FAUX PATCHWORK CARD IN CRUSHED CURRY

This week's Colour Creations blog hop is all about Crushed Curry, a rather dark yellow that I have always considered a mustard, and suited to masculine cards.  However, the card I've created is decidedly floral, and the different tones of Crushed Curry used give it a softer look.

I have used the gorgeous Inked Botanicals Designer Series Paper to create a faux patchwork background.  I chose several Crushed Curry patterns from the pack, and cut out lots of squares using the second-smallest square die in the Stylish Shapes Dies pack.  To a piece of Basic White card, I adhered 12 of the squares.  I then cut out the whole panel with the largest Radiating Stitches Die, and sponged the edges with Crushed Curry ink.  To finish off the background, I used my Crushed Curry Stampin' Write Marker to draw cross-stitches in the pierced holes of the squares, where they joined.  This worked well using the fine tip of the marker, as it's an older style.  (The new Stampin' Write Markers have a bullet point more suited to writing with.)

Once I'd finished my "quilted" Crushed Curry background, I matted it on a piece of Lost Lagoon cardstock, that had been scalloped at the bottom thanks to a Scalloped Contours Die.

Using the Color & Contour stamp set, I stamped three flower outlines in Crushed Curry ink, on Basic White card.  I then used Crushed Curry ink, stamped off each time onto scrap paper before stamping onto the card, to stamp the solid "fill in" flowers.  I stamped them each twice, rotating a little, to give fuller coverage to the petals.

The foliage added behind the flowers was cut using Meadow Dies, from Basic White and Pool Party card, and Inked Botanicals DSP.  Glossy Dots were added to the flower centres.

Here's a closer look at the cross-stitches added with the marker.  I, of course, had to add a bow to my card - this one is made using two strands of white baker's twine.

The sentiment was stamped in Lost Lagoon and Crushed Curry ink, on Basic White card, then cut out using a Stylish Shapes banner die.  Underneath the sentiment is a strip of Inked Botanicals DSP, that has been sponged around the edges with Lost Lagoon ink (as seen in the full-sized card photo at the top of my post).

  1. Christine, unless you had told me I would have thought you had sewn this card! Your draw cross-stitches in Crushed Curry look so realistic. What a great card to showcase both this colour and the Inked botanicals DSP.

  2. Wow all those cross stitches!Inked Botanicals is beautiful paper and a great way to feature Crushed Curry and strangely enough how well Lost Lagoon goes with it. I love all the variations of depth of colour of Crushed Curry.

  3. Oh, Christine, all those stitches drawn with the marker would have taken ages to do, but so worth it, such a wonderful effect. I love the Radiating Stitches, and the Lost Lagoon and Pool Party look great with Crushed Curry.
