STAMPIN' UP! BIRD'S EYE VIEW FRIENDSHIP CARD IN CRUMB CAKE

This week's Colour Creations blog hop sees a group of us, all Stampin' Up! demonstrators in Australia, showcasing Crumb Cake - my all-time favourite neutral.  I had a lot of fun making the card I am sharing with you, partly because I love Crumb Cake, and partly because the Bird's Eye View stamp set puts a smile on my face every time I use it.

I covered my Crumb Cake card front with a slightly smaller piece of woodgrain-patterned paper, from the One Horse Open Sleigh DSP pack, that I'd sponged around the edges with Crumb Cake ink.

I loved the tone-on-tone look of the Gorgeous Garden die-cut piece used on my Colour Creations card last week, so employed the same technique this week.  After cutting the leafy background from Crumb Cake card, I adhered it to a piece of Crumb Cake card.  I then cut this piece with a Deckled Rectangles Die, and sponged the edges with Crumb Cake ink.

The sentiment was created with two stamps from the Hope You Know stamp set.  The first is stamped in Crumb Cake ink, and the second in Memento Tuxedo Black ink, on a piece of the same DSP as used for the background on my card.  I cropped the sentiment with a Nested Essentials Die, also sponging the edges of this piece with Crumb Cake ink.

The little flowers I used on my card were cut from Sweet Sorbet card, using Sentimental Park Dies.  Classic Matte Dots were added to the flower centres.

The owl, branch and leaves were all stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black ink on Basic White card, and fussy-cut.  I coloured the owl with Crumb Cake Stampin' Blends markers (and Pumpkin Pie Stampin' Blends for the beak).  The leaves were coloured using Old Olive and Mossy Meadow Stampin' Blends.  I used Natural Tones Deep, and Pebbled Path, Stampin' Blends to colour the branch.

After I'd coloured the owl with Stampin' Blends, I added Fine-Tip Glue to the glasses, to give them some shine and dimension.  I added 3 or 4 layers in total (allowing plenty of drying time in between), and finished off with a swipe or two of Wink of Stella.

You can see the shine in this photo:

  5. Such a cute card! That poor bird looks like he has "coke bottle" lenses in his glasses but what an effective way to create them. I love the little pops of Sweet Sorbet for the flowers. It lifts the card beautifully.
