The colour we're showcasing in this week's Colour Creations blog hop is Crushed Curry. It is Stampin' Up!'s darkest yellow, with real mustard tones.
I used the Painted Posies 3D embossing folder to emboss a piece of Fluid 100 Watercolor Paper. I've coloured the embossed parts of the paper in a very loose style. I first added some colour to the flowers and stems, using Stampin' Write Markers in Crushed Curry, Old Olive and Highland Heather, then spread the ink with a Water Painter.
Once the flowers were dry, I painted some of the background using Pool Party ink. I'd pooled the ink in the lid of my inkpad (by squeezing the lid when it was closed), and diluted it well before brushing it around the embossed and painted images.
Here's a closer look at my deliberately messy watercolouring:
From Crushed Curry Designer Series Paper, I cut four "photo corners" using a Fabulous Frames die. My aim was to give my card a bit of a postcard look. I adhered two of the photo corners to the black mat before sticking down the main panel. The other two photo corners were stuck on top, in opposing corners.
I find Crushed Curry a very bold colour to work with, so didn't want to add much embellishment to my card. A simple Black and White Gingham Ribbon bow was my only finishing touch.

Such a wonderful effect you've achieved with your "messy watercolouring" Christine. This colour perfectly matches the sentiment on your card and i also love the way you've used the Fabulous Frames corners to make it look even more like a watercolour painting.

ReplyDeleteI really love the way you have used the corner dies from Fabulous Frames, they're just like the photo corners we used to have. The messy watercolouring is very effective and as always you have tied a beautiful bow.
ReplyDeleteA great technique in your messy water colouring, Christine. What a wonderful idea to colour the dry embossed water colour paper. The corner die cut pieces are great around the DSP.
ReplyDeleteGreat technique beautifully executed Christine. I particularly love the addition of the Pool Party in the background. And I think you succeeded in creating a pretty postcard.
