I'm scraping in with a card in the last hours of the current As You See It Challenge - a challenge made for me! Masculine cards are my comfort zone.
I have used a sketch from last week's Freshly Made Sketches, to help spur my creativity, as lately I feel I've been using same-old layouts on my cards.
The starting point for my card was a piece of World of Good Designer Series Paper ... Crumb Cake, with a map pattern. Sailing Home is a stamp set that co-ordinates nicely with it, so I used a couple of stamps from the set, along with Smooth Sailing dies.
Using my Stitched Shapes Dies, I cut the largest circle from Crumb Cake ink. I then used the second-largest circle to cut out the inside of the larger circle, leaving the larger size as a frame. I popped up the smaller of the two circles on Black Dimensionals, after sponging the edges in Crumb Cake ink, and stamping some seagulls in Memento Tuxedo Black ink. In between the two circles is a strip of Basic Black card, around which I wrapped Linen Thread.
The yacht was stamped on a scrap of Crumb Cake card, die cut, and added to the focal circle. A couple of Matte Black Dots were added to the top and bottom of the larger circle frame.
When I'd cut my panel of map paper, I adhered it to a Basic Black card layer. I die-cut the boat's wheel (I have only just learnt this is the helm - I thought the helm was the area of a vessel where the captain/driver sits!), cutting through both layers. At this point I ran the panel through my Stampin' Cut & Emboss machine, using the beautifully textured Old World Paper 3D embossing folder. After adhering all the top layers to my card base, I inlaid the steering wheel back in place, and added a Matte Black Dot to the centre.
On another scrap of the map paper, I stamped the sentiment, from Happiest of Birthdays. I used Memento Tuxedo Black ink. Please ignore the slight (unintentional) blurring of the sentiment ... it seems my Stamparatus didn't align perfectly on the second impression, and my ageing eyesight didn't pick that up until I enlarged the photo to blog!
Listed below are all the products I used to make this card. If you live in Australia, and would like to shop with me for your Stampin' Up! supplies, you can get to my online store by clicking on any of the thumbnail images below.
I love a good sea-faring theme for a masculine card. That embedded die cut is great! Thanks for using our recipe at As You See It Challenges, Christine!
ReplyDeleteChristine, thanks for joining in our recipe challenge! Great to have you join us at As You See It. I do like this card - you've used the ingredients well. The inlaid boat wheel/helm is a fabulous detail to include.
