STAMPIN' UP! LAYERING LEAVES CARD FEATURING WILD WHEAT

This week's Colour Creations blog hop is all about Wild Wheat, the last of the five new Stampin' Up! In Colors that we're showcasing before going on to new and returning Core Colors.  I think Wild Wheat is probably the most polarising of the new In Colors.  I love it, and have paired it with Pool Party - not a colour I would've thought of, but I think it looks fab.  My sister, whose eye for design is often quite different to mine, was visiting on a day when I was thinking about what to create with Wild Wheat.  She suggested Pool Party, so I took on the challenge!

To a Thick Very Vanilla card base, I added a Very Vanilla layer that I'd embossed with the Timeworn Type 3D embossing folder.

I used Wild Wheat ink to stamp the sentiment on Very Vanilla card.  This piece was cropped with a Deckled Rectangles Die, and run through my Stampin' Cut & Emboss Machine again after moving the die, to cut the rectangle even smaller.

I stamped the leafy sprigs on Very Vanilla card, using Wild Wheat ink.  There is a solid stamp in the Layering Leaves set, to fill in the leaves, but I opted to colour them using the Light Wild Wheat Stampin' Blends marker.  The Bough Punch was used to punch them out.

Next to the sentiment label, I added a couple of Ombre Matte Decorative Dots (technically Coastal Cabana, but they play nicely with the Pool Party elements on my card).

The Earthen Textures bundle was, I think, the perfect choice for containing the foliage and adding some stamped interest.  I am having trouble putting this bundle down lately. 😄

The bottom third of my card front panel is covered in Wild Wheat Designer Series Paper, from the In Color pack.  I used Wild Wheat Textured Ribbon, and Wild Wheat In Color Dots, to finish off my design.

  2. You took a challenging colour and added it to a challenging colour combo! Go you! Great design. Good choice putting it with Very Vanilla, that sounds nice - doesn't show up very well on my laptop, but I can imagine it - I love Very Vanilla!

Gorgeous card Christine, I agree with your sis, I really like Wild Wheat with Pool Party, not one I would have chosen. Lots of texture too with the embossing folder and the ribbon.

I think that Lynda made a great colour choice as surprisingly Pool Party goes well with Wild Wheat. I'm loving the font of the sentiment and can't wait to have a play with mine that I received this week.

  7. Well, who would have thought Pool Party would look so good with Wild Wheat?!! Those pots are great to ground your foliage and Very Vanilla is a lovely neutral with these colours too. Great card, Christine.

  8. Agree with the other comments and I also love the pairing of Pool Party with WW in your card Christine. The pots are nicely anchored with the organic patterned DSP. I love how you have coloured the leafy foliage with Light WW Blends marker.

  10. Oh wow Christine, this is a gorgeous colour combination. I hadn't taken a great deal of interest in the Earthen Textures Bundle, but my customer is going to order it and now seeing your lovely card with that colour combo, I'm considering popping it in my shopping basket too. Wild Wheat and Pool Party - it's a YES for the win!
