STAMPIN' UP! ADVENTUROUS SKY BIRTHDAY CARDS FEATURING CAJUN CRAZE

This week's Colour Creations blog hop is all about Cajun Craze - a somewhat polarising colour in Stampin' Up!'s Regals family.  I seldom reach for this colour, and have been known to claim my dislike for it, but invariably, when I use it, I love it!

I have just purchased the Adventurous Sky suite of products, and was inspired by the colours in the Take to The Sky Designer series Paper.  The papers include Copper Clay, but I subbed this out for Cajun Craze, to team with these other colours, especially great for masculine cards:

Boho Blue appears on my second card.  Please settle in for a rather photo-heavy post!

CARD #1:

I used two different Smoky Slate papers (from the Take to the Sky pack) for the background of this card.  The join between them is covered by a thin strip of Cajun Craze DSP from the Regals 6"x 6" paper pack.  The edges of the Smoky Slate papers were sponged with Smoky Slate ink, and the Cajun Craze paper with Cajun Craze ink, before being matted on a thin layer of Night of Navy card.  This whole panel was then matted on Cajun Craze card, and a Thick Basic White card base.

I die-cut three clouds from Basic White card, and embossed them with the Painted Texture 3D embossing folder.  Using sponge daubers with some ink residue on, I softly added Smoky Slate and Night of Navy ink to the edges of the clouds.

The sentiment was white heat-embossed on a strip of Cajun Craze card, that I cut out using a banner die from the Adventurous Sky bundle.  The edges of the banner are sponged with Cajun Craze ink.  The "rope" attaching the banner to the plane was cut from Night of Navy card.

I added Adhesive-Backed Metallic Gems to the card ... some silver, and some of the copper gems that I coloured with the Dark Cajun Craze Stampin' Blends marker.

The biplanes were stamped in Night of Navy ink, on Basic White card.  I used Smoky Slate and Cajun Craze Stampin' Blends markers to colour them, and they were cut out with co-ordinating dies.

To the larger of the two planes, I added a Smoky Slate propeller.  It is attached with a (retired) round brad, to allow for a bit of movement.

I had stamped, coloured and die-cut all three sized planes in the set, so added the tiny plane to the inside of my card, after adhering a piece of the Cajun Craze DSP (edges sponged with Cajun Craze ink).

CARD #2:

The only stamping on this card is part of the sentiment.  For the rest, I had fun creating with die-cut pieces, and Designer Series Papers!  I have gone for a "cleaner" look on this card, not sponging any of the edges of papers with ink.  I like the crispness of it.

The "Celebrate" was cut from Cajun Craze card, using a Wanted to Say Die.  I placed Adhesive Sheet on the back of the piece of card before cutting it, so when the word was cut out it became a sticker.  Especially handy for rather fine die-cuts that are messy to glue down.

On a piece of Basic White card, I stamped the second part of the sentiment (from the Cake Fancy stamp set) in Night of Navy ink.  One of the sweet Happy Little Things Dies was used to cut this out.

How fun are the dies that cut out the components of the biplane, with no stamping required?  I cut the body of the plane, and the wheels, from Cajun Craze card, and overlaid the wing and surrounding details cut from Night of Navy card.  The propeller was cut from Silver Foil.

The Boho Blue cloud-patterned paper, and the Night of Navy checked paper, is from the Take to the Sky DSP pack.  The Cajun Craze dotty paper is from the Regals 6" x 6" DSP pack.

To complement the silver propeller, I added a few Industrial Trinkets to my card (using glue dots).

Inside the card, I added a Deckled Rectangle of the cloud paper, and another of the Wanted to Say sentiments cut from Cajun Craze card.

  1. Wow, Christine, two wonderful birthday cards from the birthday girl! I love, love love the Scrappy DSP background on your first card, as well as the colouring of the plane. The die cut plane on your second card is totally adorable - what fabulous masculine cards! Happy birthday my friend xx

You have made two stunning cards Christine. Lovely choice of Night of Navy to stamp the planes. As much as the cards are delightful, the planes look a bit too rust affected for me to be happy to go for a ride in them!

  3. Another fab combo of colours! Christine, both these cards are wonderful, and I cannot pick a favourite. I really like the way you have mixed the patterned papers, it adds such a lot of interest.

I understand your dislike for this bold colour but likewise when I use it I warm to it. Both of your cards feature this bold colour beautifully. I have to say that the first one is my favourite especially with all of the little details, the embossing, the propeller, the clouds, the list goes on. As always there are lots of fabulous details.

  5. Both fantastic masculine cards, Christine, but that first one is my fav. I love Night of Navy with Cajun Craze and particularly the way you have coloured the biplanes with your blends markers; such wonderful detail. The embossed clouds against the two different DSPs is wonderful. I do love how you used the diecut pieces for your plane on card two though, fantastic!!!

  6. Two gorgeous guy cards here! I love the way the plane is put together with coordinating colours, so the second card is my favourite.
