STAMPIN' UP! MASCULINE BIRTHDAY CARD FEATURING BASIC GRAY

This week's Colour Creations blog hop is all about Basic Gray, a staple neutral in Stampin' Up!'s colour range.  I consulted Stampin' Up!'s Color Coach, and settled on this colour combination, which I think is ideal for a masculine card:

I am getting great value for money from the Beautiful Balloons bundle.  Today's card sees it paired with the awesome Sketched Plaid background stamp.

I started with a piece of Basic Gray card, and stamped Sketch Plaid in Basic Gray ink.  I then added extra lines with a ruler,  a white gel pen, and Night of Navy and Pretty Peacock Stampin' Write Markers.  It's so easy to create custom tartan/plaid backgrounds using this versatile stamp, and markers.

The balloons and strings were stamped in each of the colours chosen for my card.  Using Basic Gray ink, I stamped "Let's get our celebration on" directly onto the background, before adhering the balloons.

I stuck some Adhesive Sheet onto the back of card scraps in Basic Gray, Night of Navy and Pretty Peacock, then die-cut some tiny stars from one of the dies in the Beautiful Balloons set.  Matte silver sequins help lighten the background a little.

Using a Basic Borders Die, I cut some Pretty Peacock and Night of Navy card, to add zigzag detail.  I stamped "Happy Birthday" on Basic Gray card, using Versamark ink, then heat-embossed it in white.  A Nested Essentials Die was used to crop the sentiment.

You really are the queen of masculine cards love. Thanks for enlightening me about the plaid stamp as I hadn't noticed it before. The addition of the White line especially lightens the background and the Night of Navy and Pretty Peacock add another dimension. The serrated edge looks fabulous too.
