STAMPIN' UP! INKED & TILED SYMPATHY CARD IN BALMY BLUE

We have had a lovely time showing off all of Stampin' Up!'s new colours to you over the past couple of months.  Now we're resuming "normal transmission", and continuing on an alphabetical basis, for the rest of our Colour Creations blog hops.  The colour in this week's spotlight is Balmy Blue.

To challenge myself, I decided to use this colour combination, suggested in Stampin' Up!'s Color Coach:

Here's how those colours came together:

The starting point for my card was the beautiful Balmy Blue Textured Shimmer Paper.  I used the largest of the Radiating Stitches Dies to cut a rectangle from this paper.

On my craft desk was a piece of Basic White card that I'd embossed with the Exposed Brick 3D embossing folder.  I used a Scalloped Contours Die to cut the border attached to the bottom of my Balmy Blue layer.  The texture is not glaringly obvious at first sight, but adds a little simple interest, don't you think?

I was hesitant to use too much Azure Afternoon on my card, as Balmy Blue is such a nice soft blue.  I think it looks okay as a base for the sentiment, which I heat-embossed in white.  This close-up shows the lovely texture of the heat embossing, and the shimmer of the Balmy Blue paper.

After cutting a Basic White scalloped rectangle panel, I used the same sized die to cut a piece of Azure Afternoon card.  Once I'd embossed the sentiment, I trimmed it down so that it could be directly adhered on top of the white scallops.  I glued a very thin strip of Pebbled Path card across the join.

For the flowers and stems, I used Stampin' Write Markers in Balmy Blue and Pebbled Path, colouring directly onto the rubber of the stamps.  The stamping was done before I cut out the Basic White scalloped rectangle.  I added fine ink splatters in all three colours - Balmy Blue, Azure Afternoon and Pebbled Path - by flicking the brush tip of each marker on the inside of the lid (when off).

Iridescent Pearls finish off my card design.  I think they beautifully complement the Shimmer Paper.

  1. Such a pretty card, Christine. I love the large scallop at the bottom to mimic the scalloped border with your stamping. The fine ink splatters really finish it off with the bow and pearls!

Oh Christine such a lovely card to be used for a sad occasion. I love the use of the Shimmer paper. I had neglected to realise that it was in Balmy Blue. I can imagine it gives a lovely shimmer. I think you have chosen just the right amount of Azure Afternoon as it can be quite a strong colour as you said. I recently purchased this stamp set and look forward to having a play.
