STAMPIN' UP! CHANGING LEAVES CARDS FEATURING CRUSHED CURRY

This week's Colour Creations blog hop is all about Crushed Curry - a yellow I don't use very much!  It does have beautiful rich tones, and I enjoyed playing with it to showcase the Changing Leaves Hybrid Embossing Folder.  This is a deeply-etched 3D embossing folder, with co-ordinating and complementary dies.

CARD #1:

The background of this card is a piece of Basic White card, embossed with the Changing Leaves Hybrid embossing folder.  Subtle splatters of colour were added by flicking the brush tips of my Light Pecan Pie and Light Old Olive Stampin' Blends markers against the open lids.  I matted the embossed panel on a slightly larger piece of Crushed Curry card, that I'd sponged around the edges of, with Crushed Curry ink.  The card base is Thick Basic White.

The leaves were a result of a lovely play session with ink!  I started off with a piece of Thick Basic White card (card front sized).  Using Blending Brushes, I coloured the card completely with Crushed Curry ink, then added 3-5 large "blobs" each of Pecan Pie and Old Olive inks.  I describe it this way, because it was a very quick, uncalculated, process.  Something that starts off looking quite messy yields a great result.

I flicked water from my Water Painter over the coloured piece of card.  Making sure it was dry, I then ran it through my Stampin' Cut & Emboss Machine, using the Changing Leaves Hybrid Embossing Folder.  The die, that cuts the three main leafy pieces, fits inside the embossing folder, so you can emboss and die-cut them at the same time.  Genius!

At this stage I decided to add a bit more ink.  I flicked the brush tip, against the open lid, of my Natural Tones Deep 200 Stampin' Blends marker, to add a bit more detail to those beautifully embossed leaves.

Here's a closer look at the luscious details.  I used a smaller leaf die to cut some more leaves from the offcuts of my main die-cut piece.  I like that only parts of these leaves have remnants of embossed detail on them.

The sentiment, from Hope You Know, was stamped in Versamark ink on Basic Black card.  I sprinkled white embossing powder over the words, and melted it with my heat tool.  There is a circle die in the Changing Leaves Hybrid Embossing Folder bundle, but it was bigger than I wanted (I didn't want to cover up too much of the leaf detail).  I cropped the sentiment using a Stylish Shapes Die instead.

Some Adhesive-Backed Dots For Days were added to the background.

I had coloured, embossed and die-cut two panels of Thick Basic White card, so had the components to make a second card.  On this one I've used the new Sweet Days of Autumn Designer Series Paper, featured in the (online only) September Scrapbooking Brochure.

                                                                             CARD #2:

The card base for my second card is Very Vanilla, rather than Basic White.

The sentiment, from Hope You Know, was stamped in Old Olive ink on a piece of Very Vanilla card.  I inserted the stamped piece part-way into a Basics 3D embossing folder, lining up the open edge of the embossing folder with the sentiment.  Once I'd embossed it, I turned the folder around, and did the same to the other side.

Underneath the sentiment I added a strip of Crushed Curry Designer Series Paper, with the edges sponged in Crushed Curry ink.

Here's a closer look at the arrangement of leaves on a couple of papers from the Sweet Days of Autumn DSP pack.  I sponged the edges of the papers in Pecan Pie and Old Olive inks.

The bow is made of Very Vanilla twine, from the Baker's Twine Essentials Pack, and again I've used Adhesive-Backed Dots For Days.

Inside the card I stamped a second sentiment, in Pecan Pie ink.  Beneath the sentiment I arranged a couple of leaves I die-cut from the leftover bits of my coloured card panel.

  2. I really like the way you have coloured your card before cutting the leaves, a wonderful effect, Christine. The strips of DSP on card two add a lovely beckground to another bunch of leaves. Great use of Crushed Curry.
