This week's Colour Creations blog hop is all about Highland Heather, a light purple in Stampin' Up!'s colour range.
Stepping outside my comfort zone, and inclination to make a soft floral card, I had a flash of inspiration to pair Highland Heather with a navy blue. Night of Navy looked too dull, but Starry Sky (with its purplish tones) turned out to be a lovely choice.
I stamped the Rays of Light stamp on Highland Heather card, using Highland Heather ink. Even when not used as "sun rays", I think this image is a fantastic graphic background for almost any design of card.
On Basic White card, I stamped the gorgeous (huge!) sentiment, in Starry Sky ink. After cutting it out with a Deckled Rectangle Die, I ran it back through the Stampin' Cut & Emboss machine, moving the die a little to crop the panel to a slightly smaller size.
Using a Hydrangea Die, I cut out lots of sweet flowers in Highland Heather, Basic White, Starry Sky and Silver Foil. I attached Adhesive Sheet to the back of each strip of card before die-cutting, so the flowers were effectively stickers when cut, eliminating any mess when adhering them to the card.
To some flower centres, I added Starry Sky Matte Decorative Dots, and to others I added rhinestones. I sponged Highland Heather ink around the edges of the Highland Heather card panel, layered this piece on Basic White and Starry Sky card mats, all on a Thick Basic White card base.

I love the way that the rays highlight the sentiment by drawing the eye. The flowers are a beautiful finishing touch, and the colour combo is perfection.
ReplyDeleteHow good does Starry Sky look with Highland Heather! These tiny hydrangea flowers are a darling detail on your delightful card, Christine. Great tip to use Adhesive Sheet before die-cutting flowers this small. Love your card!
ReplyDeleteA delightful card Christine. I love the sun rays stamp behind this sentiment. The stamped rays underscore the sending sunshine message beautifully. The little hydrangea petals scattered across the card is gorgeous. Such a clever idea to add adhesive sheet behind (I usually forget). The colour combo is beautiful. Xxx From Andrea
ReplyDeleteWhat a delightful colour combination Christine, and I love those sun rays in HH.
ReplyDeleteI had also contemplated using Starry Sky for my sentiment originally as it does have those purple undertones. Such a nice "stepping out of your comfort zone" change. Good idea to use the adhesive sheets too and those flowers add another dimension.
ReplyDeleteSo pretty, Christine. I love the use of the sun rays stamp in the background and great use of that large sentiment. Those die cut flowers are beautiful and a great tip to using the adhesive sheets, I always remember to use those after I have die cut :(
