STAMPIN' UP! TRUSTY TOOLS BIRTHDAY CARD IN BASIC GRAY

It's time for another Colour Creations blog hop, and this week it's all about Basic Gray.  This neutral is great for masculine cards.

I pulled out a wood plank patterned paper from the Country Woods Designer Series Paper pack.  The design has Basic Gray and Basic Beige in it, so that's the colour scheme I adopted for my card (with a bit of Basic White and Cherry Cobbler added).

I repeatedly stamped some of the tools, screws and nuts in Basic Gray ink directly onto the Country Woods Designer Series Paper.  After sponging the edges of the DSP panel, I adhered it to a Basic Gray mat.

Here's a close-up of the "grungy" look I achieved with the ribbon.  There are no Basic Gray Stampin' Blends markers in Stampin' Up!'s range, so I couldn't custom-colour ribbon as I like to.  Instead, I took some Basic Beige Bordered Ribbon, and laid it flat on scrap paper.  I then ran my open Basic Gray inkpad along the ribbon, to add the colour I wanted.  Because the ink is water-based, rather than alcohol-based, it takes a little while to completely dry.  I made sure it was well dry before adding it to my card, and knotting a second piece of the coloured ribbon around it.

Using one of the Trusty Tools Dies, I cut a peg board from Basic Beige card.  I cropped it with a Deckled Rectangles Die, before matting it on a layer of Basic Gray card.

The sentiment, from So Sincere, was stamped in Versamark ink on Basic Gray card.  I sprinkled white embossing powder over the words, and melted the powder with my heat tool.  The sentiment was cut out with a tag die from the Greetings of the Season Dies, coming out as an Online Exclusive in July.

I stamped the hammer and wrench onto the same DSP as in the background, using Basic Gray ink, then cut them out with co-ordinating dies.  I coloured them with Smoky Slate and Cherry Cobbler Stampin' Blends, and Color Lifter.  The embellishments holding the tool handles and sentiment tag are Basic Gray pearls, with one having been coloured with the Dark Cherry Cobbler Stampin' Blends marker.

Here's how I decorated the inside of the card.  A Basic White panel is matted on a Basic Gray piece of card.  I cut a strip of the wood plank Designer Series Paper, and stamped screws and nuts all over it in Basic Gray ink.  I sponged the edges of this paper with Basic Gray ink before adhering it to the Basic White card.

Great masculine card Christine! I love your stamped, grungy background. Very clever idea to colour the ribbon with the Basic Gray stamp pad.

Another great masculine card which is definitely your specialty. I really love the grungy look for the ribbon. It goes so well with tools. The pops of Cherry Cobbler lift the card nicely and I do love the vertical greeting for a change.

  3. Fantastic card Christine. Yes I was lamenting there not being blends in Basic Gray so I could colour ribbon but I love that you did the Basic Beige that way with the ink pad. Your background stamping is so fun and I just love your peg board. Fantastic card!

  4. A fantastic masculine card, Christine. The pop of Cherry Cobbler is gorgeous and love your patience to let that ribbon dry before adding it to your card. The background stampi ng directly onto the DSP looks amazing too!
