This week's Colour Creations blog hop is all about Azure Afternoon, a blue in Stampin' Up!'s Brights collection.
I have used this colour combination to make two birthday cards with a butterfly theme:
CARD #1:
I love the patterns in the 6"x6" Designer Series Paper, in all the colour collections, this year. I was happy for the leafy/floral pattern to feature heavily, with the butterflies almost blending into the background. I much preferred this look, to having the butterflies highlighted on white circles (which is what I first tried out).
Using blending brushes, I applied ink to Paper Butterfly Accents. I started with Blueberry Bushel ink on the butterflies' bodies and antennae, then blended outwards with Azure Afternoon and Melon Mambo inks. Once dry, I painted clear Wink of Stella over the butterflies to give them a lovely shimmer.
I decorated the butterflies' bodies with Iridescent Pearls.
As you can see, I used two of the patterns of Azure Afternoon paper from the Brights DSP pack. I sponged the edges with Azure Afternoon ink before adhering them to a Blueberry Bushel card mat.
A small piece of Melon Mambo card, embossed with a Basics 3D embossing folder, was added to the card front, and a White Diagonal Ribbon bow affixed with glue dots.
The sentiment, from Sketched Butterflies, was stamped in Blueberry Bushel ink on a piece of Basic White card, which I then cut using a Sentimental Park Die. I also used Sentimental Park Dies to cut the five small flowers, from a piece of Basic White card on which I'd blended the three colours used for the butterflies. After gluing the flowers to the edges of the sentiment label, I added Rainbow Adhesive-Backed Dots to three of the flower centres.
CARD #2:
I had blended ink on a third butterfly, using the same three colours as above, so decided to create a second card while I had out my supplies.
For this card, I matted a strip of the Azure Afternoon DSP on Melon Mambo card. The background panel is a piece of Azure Afternoon card, sponged around the edges with Azure Afternoon ink. Using the Sketched Butterflies stamp set, I stamped small butterflies in Azure Afternoon and Blueberry Bushel inks (stamped off first onto scrap paper, to make the impressions a little less dark than full-strength). I splattered ink on the background, using the Dark Azure Afternoon Stampin' Blends marker, by flicking the brush tip end against the inside of the open lid. Once I'd given the panel the ink treatment, I ran it through my Stampin' Cut & Emboss Machine, inside the Cute Crochet 3D embossing folder. I love the fine, delicate, detail that this folder gives.
The Paper Butterfly Accent, once coloured, was adhered to a Basic White circle cut using Stylish Shapes Dies. I added three Rainbow Adhesive-Backed Dots to the butterfly's body.
The sentiment, also from Sketched Butterflies, was stamped in Azure Afternoon ink on Basic White card. I used a label die from the Lovely & Sweet Dies collection to cut it out.
The ribbon is White Diagonal Ribbon, coloured with the Dark Azure Afternoon Stampin' Blends marker. I wrapped a shorter length around the central strip of DSP and card, and secured a bow on top using glue dots.
A few Basic Rhinestones were added to the card front, to give it a bit of light and sparkle.
