JAI #166 : A SHAVING FOAM, EASY EVENTS, COLOUR CHALLENGE!

This week at Just Add Ink, Delys has come up with an awesome colour combo for us to use on our cards/scrapbook pages:

I was tempted to make a masculine card with these colours, but am in need of "happy anniversary" cards at the moment, so decided to make a rather rustic-looking anniversary card.

Using the shaving foam technique, that I've latched on to a bit of late, I created a background panel with Lucky Limeade, Night of Navy (as I don't have Midnight Muse - must rectify that!) and Crumb Cake re-inkers.

Stamps: Easy Events, Teeny Tiny Sentiments
Card: Crumb Cake, Lucky Limeade, Midnight Muse, Whisper White
DSP: Print Poetry Designer Series Paper stack
Ink: Midnight Muse stampin' pad, Crumb Cake stampin' pad, marker and re-inker, Lucky Limeade stampin' pad, marker and re-inker, Night of Navy re-inker
Other: 2 1/2" Circle punch, Perfect Pennants Bigz die, Midnight Muse stitched satin ribbon, Crumb Cake taffeta ribbon, Lucky Limeade ruffled ribbon, sponge daubers, Stamp-a-ma-jig, glue dots, shaving foam

JAI #162: SHAVING CREAM TECHNIQUE

This week at Just Add Ink, Delys has come up with the idea of us all trying a technique we've never tried before.

I have, for a long time, wanted to try the Shaving Cream technique ... but the males in my house use shaving gel (no good for this technique!), and I have repeatedly forgotten to buy shaving cream from the supermarket.  Finally I got myself organised - only to find that Chantell, another member of the JAI Design Team, has chosen the same technique.  You'll see from our cards, though, that this technique can yield very different results, so hopefully we'll both inspire you!

Here's a link to a YouTube video I found helpful before starting:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ju7ud_jBC8M

I wanted to achieve a real intensity of colour in the 'shaving cream panels', so used a generous number of drops of ink.  For this card I used Tangerine Tango, Calypso Coral and Daffodil Delight - and I just love the boldness of the end result.

Stamps: Easy Events
Card: Calypso Coral, Basic Black, Whisper White
Ink: Tangerine Tango ink refill, Calypso Coral and Daffodil Delight ink refills and markers, Jet Black Staz-On inkpad, Black permanent marker
Other: 2 1/2" Circle punch, Delicate Doilies Sizzlits, Calypso Coral ruffled ribbon, Scallop Edge border punch, 1/16" circle punch, glue dots, basic pearls, sponge dauber

Here's another card I made, using the shaving cream technique and a trio of blue ink refills:

Stamps: Papillon Potpourri, Teeny Tiny Sentiments
Card: Night of Navy, Whisper White, Tempting Turquoise
Ink: Night of Navy ink refill and stampin' pad, Tempting Turquoise and Pool Party ink refills
Other: Beautiful Butterflies Bigz die, Elegant Butterfly punch, 2 1/2 " Circle punch, Perfect Polka Dots embossing folder, Delicate Doilies Sizzlits, Brights button, Pool Party baker's twine, Finishing Touches edgelits, sponge dauber, Stamp-A-Ma-Jig, glue dots

Make sure you check out the rest of the Just Add Ink Design Team's creations.  We would love to have you play along with us - so how about trying out that technique you've had on your "must try" list?

This week at Just Add Ink,  we have a great colour challenge, set by Nikki.

This one REALLY had me thinking!  So Saffron is one of the Stampin' Up! colours that I use the least .... but, after a bit of deliberation,  I decided it'd be perfect for a baby card.

STAMPIN' UP!'S EASY EVENTS FRAMELITS CARD

I just had to share with you a cute little card I've made using Stampin' Up!'s new Labels Collection Framelits dies.  These fabulous wafer-thin metal dies cut beautifully, come in 6 sizes that mat together, and of course co-ordinate with the gorgeous new Apothecary Art stamp set ..... do you need any other reasons to order them???!!

I call this my "polka dot overload" card.  Check out the dotty stamped base card, the polka dot leaves on the cute paper, the polka dot embossing on the smaller Framelits, the polka dot ribbon, AND the polka dot brad.  Cute, don't you think?!  It makes me happy, anyway!

I made this card by using the largest of the Framelits to cut through a folded piece of Lucky Limeade card (positioning the fold just below the top of the die, so the fold stayed intact).  The frosting on the cupcake was a little 'trial and error' process.  I started off colouring it with my Melon Mambo marker, but decided to add dimension, so coloured over that with a Versamarker (same clear ink as the Versamark pad, but in a handy-dandy pen - gotta love that!), and sprinkled Melon Mambo embossing powder over the top, then heated it.  I wasn't 100% happy with the patchy result I got, so I coloured AGAIN with the Versamarker, sprinkled Iridescent Ice embossing powder over the top, and heated it.  I like the irregular look I finally achieved;  in future I'll know I can cut out at least one of those steps!

Stamps: Easy Events; Dot, Dot, Dot
Card: Lucky Limeade, Melon Mambo, Whisper White
DSP: Cheerful Treat Designer Series Paper
Ink: Versamark inkpad, Versamarker, Jet Black Staz-on inkpad, Melon Mambo marker, Lucky Limeade marker, Concord Crush marker
Other: Labels Collection Framelits dies, Perfect Polka Dots embossing folder, Melon Mambo polka dot ribbon, In Color Designer Printed brad, 2 1/2 " Circle punch, sponge daubers, mini glue dots, stampin' dimensionals

STAMPIN' UP!'S "BEST OF EVERYTHING" FOR INKSPIRATIONS #96 & JAI #94

I really love Stampin' Up!'s sweet stamp set called "Best of Everything", but must admit to having used it only once or twice so far.  I decided to ink it up for a couple of challenges this week.  My colours were decided by this week's Inkspirations Colour Challenge:

and I based my card design (rather loosely) around the sketch that Bron has come up with for Just Add Ink's challenge this week:

I coloured in the little bird using my markers, direct to rubber; the Bashful Blue has come up rather pale on the Very Vanilla card, but hopefully you can still see it okay!

Stamps: Best of Everything, Confetti, Easy Events
Card: Crumb Cake, Bashful Blue, Real Red, Very Vanilla
Ink: Crumb Cake stampin' pad, Bashful Blue stampin' pad and marker, Real Red stampin' pad and marker, Peach Parfait marker
Other: Scallop Circle Bigz die, Circle Nestabilities, Stripes embossing folder, Petals-A-Plenty embossing folder, Eyelet Border punch, Word Window punch, Modern Label punch, Owl Builder punch, sponge daubers, Cherry Cobbler Baker's Twine and Red Glimmer paper (being released 1st December), Tombow liquid glue

STAMPIN' UP! "TICKETS & TAGS" SIMPLY SCRAPPIN' KIT - PART 2

I'm back, as promised, with another card made using paper from my new Tickets & Tags Simply Scrappin' Kit.  The grungy grid paper in this pack pairs perfectly with Well Worn Designer Series Paper, and is great for "guy" cards.

Check out the new Denim Ribbon that I've used on this card, along with the cute focal image that is from the super-versatile new Easy Events stamp set.  I paper-pieced the snail's shell, after stamping Extreme Elements on the grid paper.  Cute, don't you think?!
