STAMPIN' UP! MASCULINE BIRTHDAY CARD IN SAHARA SAND

The colour we're focussing on, for this week's Colour Creations blog hop, is Sahara Sand.  This neutral  is not dissimilar to Crumb Cake, but is a little more grey.

I have again taken inspiration from an item in my house - this tissue box:

I like the woodgrain background, the hexagons, and the soft blue and green that I might not otherwise have thought to put together.  Here is what I came up with, using Stampin' Up! products, and the colours Sahara Sand, Balmy Blue, Soft Sea Foam and Night of Navy:

I rubbed my Sahara Sand inkpad directly onto the inside of the Timber 3D embossing folder, before inserting a Sahara Sand card panel and running it through the Stampin' Cut & Emboss machine.  This helps to give a little more definition to the embossed piece.

Using a few different background stamps, I added natural-looking details to the die-cut hexagons.  The Sahara Sand hexagons are stamped with the Birch stamp, the Balmy Blue hexagons with Gentle Waves, and the Soft Sea Foam hexagons with Stacked Stone.

I used two hexagon dies together (one slightly smaller than the other) to die-cut the Night of Navy hexagon frames.  By adhering Adhesive Sheets to the back of my card pieces, in all four colours, before die-cutting them, I created "stickers" that were easy to place, with no glue mess.

The sentiment, from Slim Sayings, was stamped in Night of Navy ink on a strip of Sahara Sand card.  Some bronze Brushed Metallic Adhesive-Backed Dots finish off my card.

Here's a closer look at some of the details:

STAMPIN' UP! PEONY SYMPATHY CARD FOR #TTTC123

This week's Tic Tac Toe Challenge really appeals to me ... peonies are my favourite flowers.  I chose to work with the top horizontal line:

I find orange a little hard to incorporate into my card designs, but by opting for softer tones I really love the look.  Here's the card I came up with:

I stamped three peonies in Basic Gray ink on Basic White card.  To colour them, I used Stampin' Blends markers, in Pale Papaya (light and dark) and Pumpkin Pie (light and dark).  The flower centres were subtly coloured in both oranges, and Smoky Slate.  I also stamped the leaves in Basic Gray ink, then coloured them with Old Olive Stampin' Blends.

To create the vase/pot in which the flowers sit, I die-cut a piece of In Good Taste Designer Series Paper, using a Seasonal Labels Die (from the Mini Catalogue being released on 3rd August).  I trimmed the label down to the size I wanted, then stamped the surface in Smoky Slate ink, using the Stacked Stone stamp.  After stamping it once, I rotated the paper 90 degrees, and stamped the image again, to give a more textured look.  I used Smoky Slate ink to sponge around the edges of the die cut.

The background papers are two patterns from the Peaceful Place Designer Series Paper pack (also coming out 3rd August).

The sentiment, stamped in Smoky Slate ink, is from the Many Happenings stamp set.  It is die cut using the co-ordinating Messages Die, then trimmed at the left-hand edge, to allow placement against the edge of the paper.  I added some Artistry Blooms Sequins to finish off my card.

Listed below are all the current Stampin' Up! products I used to make my card.  The beautiful papers and label die (used for the vase) will be available from 3rd August.  If you live in Australia, and would like to shop with me for your Stampin' Up! supplies, you can get to my online store by clicking on any of the thumbnail images below.
